About the Peony Stem design

The Peony Stem splits its drawing between two styles. The open bloom and the half-open bud below it are traced in thin outline, petal folding over petal, with only a small black notch at each heart. The main stem, sweeping down to the right and ending in a rounded tip, turns to solid steel along with its two jagged, deeply lobed leaves. Narrow outlined leaves gather where the bud's short stalk meets the main stem.
