About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The letter C is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
Five Art Nouveau typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Nouveau Letter C design
The terminals do the talking on this C. One face lifts its top end into a sharp upswept horn, another curls it inward into a fat round knot, and a third drops straight vertical spurs at both tips. A fourth keeps an almost even stroke and finishes each end in a small ball. The fifth stretches the letter tall and narrow, its bowl dipping to a rounded point at the bottom with both ends sliced off at a slant.
