Where the Foster name comes from

Foster is a worn-down Forster, and a Forster worked in the forest. A second possibility puts a different trade behind it, the French forcetier, a maker of scissors. A third line comes from an ordinary English noun that arrived at this spelling by another route. Foster also runs the other way as a given name, taken from the surname rather than the surname from it.
