Where the Roberts name comes from

Roberts means son of Robert, and Robert is two Germanic words stuck together: hrod, renown, and beraht, bright. Bright renown is a lot to hand a baby, and it stuck. The surname is English and Welsh and it is thickest on the ground in North Wales. Robert plus -s is the whole construction, the same pattern that turned Edward into Edwards and Richard into Richards.
