Where the Torres name comes from

Torres means towers, the plural of torre, and behind that the Latin turris. It marked whoever lived in or beside a tower, and it also came to families from any of several towns called Torres. The name is Catalan, Spanish and Portuguese at once and is common in Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and the Philippines. In Italy and elsewhere it is also carried as a Sephardic surname.
