About the Dollar Sign design
The stroke is fattest where it runs diagonally through the center, tapering toward both ends, which stop on a slant like the tip of a chisel. Only one stem shows, a narrow post standing above the top curve and below the bottom one, and it never appears inside the S itself. The lower bowl swings out wider than the upper, so the weight settles low.
