About the Microscope design

A thick arm sweeps up from the base in one smooth hook, the curve of a shepherd's crook, and meets a round opening set in a solid block at the top. Above that the barrel leans back at a sharp tilt, a long slab with a narrow slot cut down its length and square notches stepping along its upper edge. The stage bar and the floor bar run parallel with a short post between them, a capital I laid on its side.
