About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The letter F is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
Five Art Nouveau typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Nouveau Letter F design
The top arm of this F rarely runs straight. It dips at the tip into a hook, a curl or a flared spur. Stems taper as well, one swelling into a sweeping foot, another leaning like a blade with its middle bar jutting past the left edge. One face keeps its crossbar hairline thin with a tiny upright spur, while another draws every stroke at one rounded, even weight and kinks both arms into slanted ends.
