About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The number 7 is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
Five Art Nouveau typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Nouveau Number 7 design
Hanging from the right end of its top bar, the downstroke of this seven bends like a reed and thickens toward a broad foot in three faces. The heaviest hangs a pointed spur from the bar, and a softer one rounds that spur into a hook and kicks its foot out like a boot heel. One face curls both ends into little spirals, while another sweeps the stem far left and crosses it with a short tilted bar.
