About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The letter M is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
8 Art Deco typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Deco Letter M design
Two faces swell the M into a rounded slab, its counters shrunk to narrow notches in an almost solid block. One face trades the left stem for a curving hairline that rises into two steep peaks, and another stretches into a tall monoline whose middle V nearly meets the baseline. Among the serifed faces, a pair ends in curling brush-stroke feet, and one of those draws its diagonal and right stem as hollow double lines.
