About the sign
One character, cut from a single sheet of steel. The number 7 is the whole sign: there is no backing plate and no border, so the shape on the wall is the character itself.
8 Art Deco typefaces to choose from, each measured against the steel at every size offered before it was drawn for sale.

About the Art Deco Number 7 design
The stem swells into a slab that nearly outweighs the top bar, and a small hooked flag curls down from the left end of that bar in half the faces. Two versions plant the stem on a curved foot like a pedestal, and one of those hollows the stem into a slim double outline. At the far extreme, one face trims the figure to a single wiry hairline, while another squares it off with an arched roof and a short crossbar jutting from its stem.
